Wallace Carothers

Carothers

A troubled genius who struggled with depression most of his adult life
and ultimate took his life by mixing cyanide into a lemon juice
cocktail, Wallace Carothers was an organic chemist from Burlington who
is credited with the invention of Nylon and Neoprene. Not to poke fun
at a long dead Iowan, but I could not help but think that perhaps a
nappy hair-do might have been more appropriate for a "mad scientist"
quite frankly Corothers looks a little too much like the guy next door
in most photos and perhaps that was his problem, had his look matched
his persona perhaps things would have worked out better for him.
