Iowa has a long history of producing leaders in global development. Perhaps it is the connection to the land that leads residents of the world's breadbasket to careers focused on making sure the have nots find paths to plenty. Today President Obama nominated Iowa expat Jim Yong Kim, President of Dartmouth College, to the post of Chief of the World Bank. A quick read of his biography and achievements signals potential for great things to come in a time of critical needs. And if the following video from a Dartmouth production of Idol, is any indication Kim also has a sense of humor and some serious talent, to be expected from a guy who was valedictorian, football captain, and President of his senior class. Quite the Iowan.
