I wonder if it ever crossed Kate Mulgrew's mind when she assumed the role of the first female captain of the Star Trek Voyager that she shared roots with the most famous of captains, that is Captain Kirk who has any good trekkie knows was born and raised in Riverside, Iowa. The connection between Star Trek and Iowa is hard to put a finger on, perhaps there is something space like and cosmic about the rolling fields, or perhaps there is an intellectual link between the best and brightest of the state that consistently scores towards the top of standardized tests with the smarts needed to go boldly where no others have gone before. Hmm. Anyway Kate is a very good actress, and quite the impressive dweller of this galaxy, Dubuque should be proud.
